Police investigate arson at NDG restaurant, second incident in recent months

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating an early-morning fire at a restaurant in the city’s Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough (NDG).

Emergency crews were called around 2 a.m. after a 911 call reported flames at the restaurant’s terrace near the corner of Ave. Somerled and Bessborough Ave. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, and damage was described as minor.

Police say incendiary items were found at the scene, indicating the fire could be criminal. No injuries were reported, as the restaurant was closed at the time.

The scene remains secured and investigators are expected to continue their work later today. Surveillance camera footage from the area will be reviewed. No arrests have been made.

Police noted a similar incident in June 2025, though it is not yet known if the two cases are connected.
