Stepmother found guilty in death of 7-year-old

The stepmother of a 7-year-old Granby girl – has been found guilty of second-degree murder in her death and of forcible confinement.

The 38-year-old woman was accused of the child’s unpremeditated 2019 murder.

A jury of six men and six women deliberated for less than three hours Thursday – before reaching a verdict.

Over the course of the last six weeks, jurors heard of the seven-year-old’s final moments, wrapped head to toe in duct tape — begging to be untied and trying to escape the day before.

Police officers also testified how emaciated the girl was when they were called to the scene and discovered her body.

The young girl’s death sparked a commission into youth protection – who had been following the child –

And the Quebec government has committed to recommendations to reform the system across the province.
