Shredding down a snowy Montreal street on a snowboard is one way to prepare for the Olympics.
Sebastien Toutant, the reigning Olympic Big Air champion, will defend his gold medal at next month’s Winter Games in Beijing.
But first, the 29-year-old native of Repentigny, Que., had a little fun with the roughly 25 cm of snow that fell across Montreal and southern Quebec on Monday.
While others dug out their cars, Toutant strapped on his board.
In a video posted to Instagram and Facebook Tuesday, the Olympic snowboarder can be seen riding down snowy Peel Street – with downtown Montreal in the foreground.
He glides on a picnic table, rides a wall, takes a couple of small jumps, and crosses the street at a perfectly timed green light. The gold medallist – fittingly for Montreal – even passes an orange “Rue Barrée” sign on his way down the slope.
“Enjoying the new snow in Montreal!!” Toutant captioned the video on his social media, with an appropriate snowflake emoji.
Canada’s Olympic snowboard team announced
Toutant, who lives in L’Assomption, Que., headlines a stacked Canadian Olympic men’s snowboarding team that features Max Parrot of Bromont, Que., Regina’s Mark McMorris and Darcy Sharpe of Comox Valley, B.C.
Toutant, Parrot and McMorris will compete in big air and slopestyle.
Quebec City’s Laurie Blouin, who won slopestyle silver at the Pyeongchang Olympics, leads the women’s contingent in both slopestyle and big air.
She’ll be joined by Jasmine Baird of Georgetown, Ont., and Brooke Voigt of Fort McMurray, Alta.
Derek Livingston of Aurora, Ont., Elizabeth Hosking of Longueuil, Que., and Calgary’s Brooke D’Hondt will represent Canada in the halfpipe.
