A seven-year-old is on a mission to give back to her community.

Dimitra Maria Rassias cut off her long hair in support of breast cancer patients as part of the Pink in the City’s Raise Craze.

“I love helping, it’s my favorite thing to do in the world and I have decided that I was gonna cut my hair so I can help people,” she said.

It’s the seventh edition of this special event in partnership with the MUHC Foundation.

The grade two students at Souvenir Elementary School is one of a few people cutting their hair to help raise funds for breast cancer research.

“I kind of got a lot nervous because this guy shaving all of his hair off and I thought they were going to do to me, too,” she said.

Dimitra saw her grandmother go through breast cancer a few years ago. Today she is a survivor.

Her mother also went through breast surgeries but thankfully her case was benign. Dimitra says both her mom and grandmother were happy she was doing this.

“I want to help.”

By Monday evening, Dimitra raised over $6,000 for the initiative. Others on-site, like Joe Santek, raise nearly $900.
