Carey Price family to move to British Columbia, sell Quebec home after hockey season

"While he hasn’t yet retired, it doesn’t look great," said Dustin Alexander of the Habs Forum Podcast, after Habs goalie Carey Price's wife Angela revealed Sunday they're moving to B.C. and selling their Montreal home. Alyssia Rubertucci reports.

Montreal Canadiens’ veteran goaltender, Carey Price, along with his family, are planning to leave Quebec.

His wife, Angela, announced on Instagram Sunday, responding to a question from a follower saying: “It looks like we will be making the move to Kelowna (British Columbia) after this hockey season. I feel like we will come back for visits quite often.”

Angela said they plan to leave at the end of the hockey season and when their six-year-old, Liv, finishes school.

She answered another question surrounding whether the family plans to sell the house, to which she responded: “Yes, we will. It’s going to be hard to say goodbye to this house and especially our neighbours.”

The news breaking immediately sent fans and media in a frenzy, speculating on Price’s future with the Habs.

“I think it’s more of a reaffirming what we already thought probably about Carey Price,” said Dustin Alexander of the Habs Forum Podcast. “Fortunately, while he hasn’t yet retired, it doesn’t look great at this point.”

Price hasn’t played a game since April 2022 and has been on the Habs’ injury reserve list, dealing with a knee injury.

“It really seems like the injuries unfortunately put an end to his career prematurely,” said Alexander.

Many taking to Twitter to express their concerns, one calling it “the end of an era.”

Angela told CityNews in an email: “We are just simply moving locations to be closer to our family.  Everything Carey has said to the media still stands, but everything he is doing here in Montreal he can do in Kelowna.”

“What she’s referring to is mostly just, trying to rehab those knees, hopefully get back into game shape,” said Alexander. “But again, I wouldn’t expect that and he even said himself, for him to play this season or next season, we need an absolute miracle at this point.”

Price was born in Vancouver, BC and spends his off-season in Kelowna. Angela added that she won’t give any details about any residence for privacy reasons.

We reached out to the Montreal Canadiens and did not hear back on the future of Price’s career, giving his injury.

“I would hope that he can get back to that level,” said Alexander. “But in the interviews that he’s given, he’s talked about just walking up and down holding his children is giving him hard time. So it certainly doesn’t sound like, at least not in the near future, I wouldn’t expect Carey Price to come back.”
