New bus service for Nuns’ Island once REM opens

By News Staff

A new bus service is coming to Nuns’ Island in late spring.

The project is tied to the rollout of the REM.

There will be two new high-frequency lines between the REM and all sectors of Nuns’ Island.

  • Line 172 Chemin-Du-Golf (weekdays only)
  • Line 176 Berlioz (daily)

Meanwhile two lines have been extended to the end of Pointe-Sud and will serve the Nuns’ Island REM station:

  • Line 12 from De l’Église metro station
  • Line 168 (modified route) from new downtown terminus Lucien-L’Allier metro station

Line 12 will run at the same frequency. The 168 will run on weekdays with a schedule adapted to the REM.

“To compensate for the service adjustment of the 168 between Cité-du-Havre, Cité du Multimédia and downtown, the 74 Bridge line has been upgraded and will now run in the evenings and on weekends. This line will run in both directions on Robert-Bourassa Boulevard throughout the week,” the STM said in a statement.

“As a result of these changes, lines 21 Place-du-Commerce and 178 Pointe-Nord/Île-des-Sœurs have been eliminated. Customers currently relying on these lines can now use the modified 12 and 168 lines.”

The new and modified bus routes were determined after a public consultation in 2019 in which residents of Nuns’ Island and Verdun voiced their opinions.

“I am confident that this will ensure smooth and easy travel in the borough of Verdun, as well as on both sides of the St. Lawrence River,” said Éric Alan Caldwell, the chair of the STM board of directors.
