Fire breaks out in old pastry shop in Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu

A fire ravaged the old Bissonnette pastry shop in downtown Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu on Monday night.

The blaze broke out at around 9 p.m. in the building located on Champlain street. The business has been permanently closed.

No one was injured according to a Facebook post on the city’s website.

Several residential buildings nearby needed to be evacuated and electricity was cut in the sector.

The investigation has been transferred to police as the cause may be criminal.

The Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu police force, along with Quebec provincial police, are investigating.
