A Montrealer won half of the $80 million Lotto Max jackpot ahead of the holidays, and despite it he plans to have a “normal Christmas” and maintain a “normal life.”

On Dec. 3, Jean Lamontagne was at work when he discovered that he won $40 million.

He shared the news with his bosses and announced that he would retire earlier than planned.

At a press conference at the Casino de Montréal on Monday, the big winner explained that he hopes to visit Europe and Bora Bora, making a cherished dream come true, but aside from that to enjoy a modest life.

He plans to use his prize to ensure his family’s financial security, investing part of the win in real estate and purchase multiplexes for his children, his brother and his sisters-in-law.

The 60-year-old was surrounded by his loved ones when he received his cheque.

“We’re always delighted to award a jackpot, but it’s even more heartwarming to do so just before the holidays. We’re so proud to be helping Quebecers like Mr. Lamontagne in this way and give them the means to make their long-held dreams come true,” said Jean-François Bergeron, President and Chief Executive Officer at Loto-Québec.

This is the second time the Lotto Max $80,000,000 jackpot has been won in the lottery game’s history.
