Man killed in carbon monoxide leak in Brossard

A South Shore man is dead following a carbon monoxide leak in a residential building in Brossard Monday afternoon.

Longueuil police (SPAL) say it happened around 2:30 p.m. at a building on Lennon Street.

Two police officers present at the scene were hospitalized, but have since been released. Their lives were not in danger.

A man in his 60s was reportedly found unconscious inside the building’s underground garage. In an update at 7:25 p.m., police confirmed that the man had died.

A fourth person, a man in his 40s, was transported to hospital as a precautionary measure.

It’s not yet known why carbon monoxide, an invisible and odorless toxic gas, is said to have spread inside the building.

Firefighters had to use industrial fans to ventilate the building affected by the leak.

A total of 75 people were evacuated from the building.

An investigation is ongoing to shed light on the circumstances of the incident.
