The Big Splash canceled in Montreal due to torrential rains

By The Canadian Press

The Big Splash, scheduled for Tuesday, was ultimately canceled due to heavy rain.

The Rivers Foundation, which organized the event, explained that the flooding caused sewage overflows. These pose a risk of water contamination, and swimming is no longer recommended in the Jacques-Cartier Basin for the next 72 hours.

According to the foundation, more than 250 people were registered for the event scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Participants were expected to swim or paddle in the St. Lawrence River.

The goal of this 20th edition of the event was to alert elected officials to the importance of providing public access to swimming.
