Montreal Police (SPVM) say four people are in custody for allegedly selling drugs destined for Northern Quebec and Dorval.
The SPVM says they worked alongside the Nunavik Police Service (SPN), and executed a pair of searches in June in connection with an investigation and made seizures of narcotics.
The searches led to four people being taken into custody, and they are expected to appear in court.
“Since spring 2025, a joint approach has been in place to combat drug trafficking and better protect members of the Inuit community, particularly those in vulnerable situations, from exploitation by criminal networks,” wrote the SPVM in a press release on Friday.
“Since the signing of an agreement between the SPVM and the SPN in May 2019, the two organizations have been working together to ensure the safety and well-being of those in Nunavik living on or visiting the island of Montreal. In the fall of 2024, this collaboration was strengthened with the deployment of SPN police officers on Montreal territory to conduct joint patrols and reassure Inuit citizens, strengthen bonds of trust and offer culturally adapted support.”
