RCMP arrest 16 people crossing Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle border

By The Canadian Press

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed it arrested 16 people attempting to cross the border into Canada in the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle area on Friday night.

These individuals were part of a group of 18 people. The RCMP said two people are still being sought by police.

“As an investigation is underway, we wish to reserve our comments at this time,” the RCMP said in a written statement on Saturday morning.

Last August, the RCMP intercepted a truck near Stansted, in the Eastern Townships, that was attempting to bring 44 migrants into Canada.

The individuals were crammed into the truck without ventilation.
