The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable says repair work on a beam on the Charles-De Gaulle Bridge, which connects Montreal and Terrebonne along Highway 40 (Félix-Leclerc) and crosses the Rivière des Prairies, will begin soon. This work, which will cause obstructions during certain weekends, will continue until March 2026.

Charles-De Gaulle Bridge (A-40): obstructions from 5 to 8 December. (CNW Group/Ministry of Transportation and Sustainable Mobility)
  • Closure of one lane out of three on Highway 40, eastbound and westbound, between Gouin Boulevard East in Montreal and Route 344 (Saint-Charles Road) in Terrebonne.
  • The width of some lanes could be reduced to 3.3 metres in the construction zone.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h on Highway 40 in both directions.

Episodes of congestion are to be expected, at certain times during the day. The Ministry recommends that road users who will have to travel in the area allow extra time to get to their destination.

It should be noted that this site may be subject to police surveillance and a speed camera will be installed. This initiative is intended to ensure the safety of road users and workers.

In the event of adverse weather conditions or operational constraints, the work may be postponed.

Drivers are advised to check Quebec 511 prior to hitting the streets to ensure they know the best way to travel.
