An 88-year-old man is dead and a 19-year-old woman was charged with second-degree murder on Monday after a deadly home invasion in the Saint-Hubert borough of Longueuil on Sunday.
Longueuil Police (SPAL) were called to the scene amid the reported break-in on Renaud Street, near Grande Allée Street, shortly after 2 a.m. on Dec. 7.

“The elderly couple present were attacked, and the man was quickly transported to the hospital with injuries that initially led us to fear for his life. Unfortunately, the man succumbed to his injuries and died,” said Jacqueline Pierre, spokesperson for the SPAL.
The victim has been identified as Michel-André Tremblay.
The woman’s life is not in danger, but she suffered injuries to her upper body.
The suspect, Lydia Ghorici, was arrested near the scene and initially charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a criminally act – namely theft. Those charges were upgraded to second-degree murder on Monday afternoon.
Ghorici was also charged with assault while carrying and using a weapon, against the female victim.

The motive for the crime is currently unknown.
Officers from the SPAL’s forensic identification unit and the canine unit were dispatched to the scene, along with a mobile command post.
Investigators were still on the scene Monday as they worked to shed light on exactly what happened.
