Snowy weather in Montreal settles in ahead of Christmas

Cloudy skies, snow and cold wind chills will define the weather through the Christmas week, with brief improvement expected on the holiday itself.

Periods of light snow begin this afternoon and continue tonight, with winds up to 15 km/h. Wind chill values drop to minus 20 this morning and sit near minus – 12 Celsius this afternoon as temperatures hold near minus – 7 C overnight.

Snow continues Tuesday, beginning in the morning, with 2 to 4 centimetres expected. Northeast winds reach 20 km/h, keeping wind chill values near minus – 13 C. A mix of sun and cloud is forecast Wednesday, with a high of minus – 2 C, before cloud returns at night along with a chance of flurries.

Christmas Day falls on Thursday, when skies are expected to clear and temperatures climb to a high of minus – 2 C. Clear conditions Thursday night allow temperatures to fall to minus – 13 C.

Cloudy skies and a 60 per cent chance of flurries return Friday and persist into the weekend, with periods of snow forecast by Sunday.
