STM and REM extend service to help Montrealers celebrate New Year’s Eve safely

Montrealers heading out to celebrate New Year’s Eve will have extra public transit options to get home safely, as both the STM and the REM extend service overnight.

The STM says metro service will run later than usual on Dec. 31, with trains operating until 3 a.m. on the Green, Orange and Yellow lines. Regular service will remain in place on the Blue Line.

The transit authority confirms the extended metro hours will not be affected by the ongoing overtime strike involving maintenance workers.

In addition to the late-night metro service, several downtown bus routes will operate throughout the night. Riders are encouraged to check the STM website in advance to plan their trips.

Meanwhile, Montreal’s REM will also run continuously from the night of Dec. 31 through the morning of Jan. 1. Overnight service will be available across the entire network, connecting Brossard and Deux-Montagnes.

Transit officials are reminding residents that public transportation is a safe alternative to driving on one of the busiest nights of the year.
