PWHL final Game 4: Montréal Victoire eyeing first Walter Cup in franchise history

"They have two chances to do it, but if they can do it tonight, it'd be great," said one Montréal Victoire fan ahead of Game 4 Wednesday where a win against Ottawa Charge would see the team capture the franchise’s first PWHL title.

The Montréal Victoire are once again on the verge of capturing the franchise’s first PWHL title.

The Victoire take a 2-1 series lead into Game 4 of the PWHL final against the Charge in Ottawa Wednesday night.

Montreal had one hand on the trophy but gave up a late lead to the Charge in Game 3 of the series on Monday.

The home team has won all three games of the final so far.

“I think it’d be great to kind of help put the women’s game on the map a little bit more,” one fan told CityNews. “They’re such a great team, really great regular season team too. So the fact that they have two opportunities to bring the Walter Cup home would be amazing.”

“I think they’re really good,” said another Victoire fan. “I’m just bummed that Ottawa won the last game, but I think we have it in the bag.”

A watch party is scheduled at Microbrasserie Mutoïde with the people behind Le Nadia, Montreal first all-women’s sports establishment that closed suddenly earlier this month.

Montrealers told CityNews it was the perfect time to be a hockey fan in the city, with the Canadiens also in the running for the Stanley Cup.

“This is what the city needs,” someone said. “Excitement. Men’s hockey, women’s hockey. I mean, what a way for this city.”

“If it could be a double cup, the city’s just going to absolutely erupt,” said another. “So yeah, really excited for that opportunity.”
