Two seriously injured after Highway 20 crash in Saint-Hyacinthe

Two people were seriously injured following a head-on collision on Highway 20 in Saint-Hyacinthe.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), preliminary information indicates a driver travelling westbound lost control of their vehicle, crossed the median and collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle carrying four occupants.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at around 5:15 p.m. Thursday.
Following the crash, two occupants of the eastbound vehicle, a man in his 40s and a minor, were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Later Thursday evening, SQ spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis-Guy said both victims were “out of danger.”
The driver of the first vehicle was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police say investigators believe the driver may have been impaired by drugs at the time of the crash, and are taking steps to obtain blood samples as part of the investigation.
Collision reconstruction specialists and SQ investigators were called to the scene to examine the crash.
