Two arrested after Quebecer killed on vacation in Dominican Republic

Two men have been arrested in the Dominican Republic after a Quebec teenager was shot dead while riding a motorcycle during a vacation.

On Monday, Tristan Primeau Poitras, 19, was travelling with his brother on the Puerto Plata–Maimón Highway, when the incident occurred. Police say the teen, who had been staying at the Riu Bachata, died from a gunshot wound.

Authorities believe the pair were targeted in an attempted robbery. “One of the suspects allegedly fired the fatal shot during the confrontation while both parties were on motorcycles,” a police statement said.

The victim’s brother, who witnessed the shooting, later identified 23-year-old Jordi Yúnior Severiano and 30-year-old Rangel Merete Rodríguez during a police lineup. Both men are now in custody and are expected to appear in court in the coming days as investigations continue.

Global Affairs Canada confirmed that it is offering consular support to the family and coordinating with local authorities.
