Video shows Calgary police officer kicking K9 partner

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Outrage is growing after an online video surfaced showing a Calgary police officer kicking his K9 partner.
In the video, the officer and his working dog are standing in a yard when the dog starts to bark and wag his tail. The officer looks at him and gives him a hard kick to the torso.
The K9 looks startled but doesn’t appear injured in the video which is making its rounds all over social media.

Many people online were appalled by the video, some demanding the officer be fired, calling the actions inexcusable and reprehensible. Meanwhile, others are defending the officer’s actions stating he’s dealing with a trained working dog, not a pet, and he had to get it under control.
In a statement released Wednesday night, the Calgary Police Service said it is aware of the video and is reviewing it, adding “(We) will release additional context tomorrow (Thursday) regarding the high-risk call this officer was on and what led to this incident.”
