Out of this world: Montreal astrologer wins $1,000 a day for life

By News Staff

Montrealer Robert Gareau is a night owl, who loves watching the stars.

But when he checked the Grande Vie’s April 25 results in the middle of the night — he couldn’t go back to sleep. The astrologer experienced something out of this world: Gareau won $1,000 a day for life.

The 69-year-old writes astrology columns for newspapers and magazines, and says he didn’t “predict” his luck.

Rather he says he won because Jupiter was properly aligned with Uranus — within 20 degrees of the Taurus constellation — something he says hasn’t happened since 1941.

“We’re thrilled to see Quebecers win the Grande Vie top prize and make their dream projects a reality,” said Isabelle Jean, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Lottery Games at Loto-Québec.

The Grande Vie top prize was won twice in the province over the last few months.

Back in December, the previous winners were sisters Manon and Maryse Gaudreau from Estrie who shared the $7 million lump sum prize.

As for Gareau, he says he’s been playing Grande Vie for many years — and took the lump sum prize of $7 million too.

His winning ticket was purchased at the Marché Express convenience store in Terrebonne. The retailer will receive a 1 per cent commission of $70,000.

Gareau said he will see what he plans to do with the money — maybe purchasing a telescope to continue looking at the stars.
