19-year-old man stabbed Saturday night in Montreal has died

The 19-year-old man who was stabbed in Montreal on Saturday night succumbed to his injuries early Sunday afternoon, the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) confirmed.

The attack occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on Arcand Street, near Robert-Jurie Street, in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.

“According to initial information received, a conflict escalated between a group of individuals and another man. When police arrived on the scene, they located a victim, a 19-year-old man with injuries to his upper body caused by a sharp object,” SPVM spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier said late in the evening.

Authorities said Sunday morning that the victim’s life was no longer in danger, but his condition worsened throughout the day.

Two men, aged 19 and 27, were arrested by police. They will be met by investigators.

“We are still trying to understand the causes and circumstances of this event. The canine squad is on the scene to analyze the scene and look for evidence,” said Gauthier.
