Montreal’s Félix Auger-Aliassime eliminated from French Open after quarterfinal loss

By CityNews and Sportsnet

Félix Auger-Aliassime’s run at the French Open has come to an end.

The Montrealer lost in four sets — 6-4, 4-6, 4-6, 4-6 — to Italy’s Flavio Cobolli in the quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Auger-Aliassime was Canada’s last singles hope at Roland Garros.

The path to a breakthrough major final for Auger-Aliassime had appeared clear in the wake of losses by No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 3 Novak Djokovic, as well as the absence of injured reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz.

However, the fourth-seeded Auger-Aliassime seemed to run out of gas, falling short against the 10th-seeded Cobolli.

Cobolli will meet the winner of a match between fellow Italians Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi in the semifinals.
