Peel Pub in downtown Montreal closed after 63 years

“The biggest loss is a community landmark,” said Erik Intrevado, producer for Peel Pub Comedy, about the closure of the Peel Pub in downtown Montreal after a bankruptcy notice could be seen posted on its front door.

A bankruptcy notice could be seen posted on its front door referring to Article 203 of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act on Sunday.

Since 1962, the Peel Pub has served its downtown regulars, students, and many sports fans.

“What I know about this is the people that work here. And from what they’ve told me is that they feel, I don’t know, left at the, left at the altar almost. They work a lot, they work hard, and to just wake up to a sign of bankruptcy,” said Rabbi, a friend of some servers at Peel Pub.

While known for being a popular bar to watch sporting events, the Peel Pub also hosted a stand-up comedy open mic night.

Its producer, who worked on the comedy show independently from the pub, says that he will now have to find a new venue.

“We had a nice show on Wednesday, thought everything was fine, and then Friday morning, I woke up to a message that the place closed for foreclosure. And realized that all my equipment was here. So while it’s not the biggest loss here, the biggest loss is a community landmark, but also the employment of the people working here, including my sisters,” said Erik Intrevado, a producer at Peel Pub Comedy.
