13-year-old on electric scooter injured in collision in Saint-Lambert

A 13-year-old riding an electric scooter was injured Friday afternoon after a collision with a vehicle in Saint-Lambert, Que.
The Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL) said officers responded around 3:30 p.m. Aug. 28 near the intersection of Dauphiné Street and Simard Boulevard following a collision involving the teenager and a vehicle driver.
The teenager was quickly taken to hospital for treatment. Police said the victim’s life was not in danger.
Traffic in the area has since returned to normal and the scene has been cleared.
According to information gathered by police so far, neither alcohol nor speed is believed to have been a factor in the collision.
Police also reminded the public that riders must be at least 14 years old to operate an electric scooter.
The SPAL advised electric-scooter users to always wear a helmet, obey road signs and traffic lights, exercise extra caution at intersections and driveway entrances, and avoid distractions such as using a cellphone.
