Mahsa Amini, who died last year while in custody of Iran’s morality police, is being honoured by Montreal’s Iranian community through a three-day exhibition.
Starting Friday, the exhibition, which is taking place at Place du Canada in downtown Montreal, is shining the spotlight on issues such as violence and gender equality.
“They can see a chronic of highlights of events that happened last year. We have categorized them into events like, attacks on children, executions, international reactions to last year’s events,” explains Saba Shahcheraghi, one of the organizers of the event.
“We want to put an end to the entirety of the Islamic Republic regime,” adds Shahcheraghi.
“We thought along the demonstration and protests on the street, we can also show Iranian voice with art,” said Hessam Sobhani, another one of the organizers.
“We have invited many groups,” says Sobhani, “many music groups, many performance groups, theatre groups,”
“The revolution is going on, it has never stopped. We want to raise our voice and we do not want to stay behind. We’ll always be present in the street, always trying to echo the voices of the Iranian people, no matter how long passes,” said Shahcheraghi.
The group will also be hosting a rally on Friday, September 16th in front of McGill University.
