By The Canadian Press

Nine people appeared in Quebec court on Saturday as part of the Sûreté du Québec’s major operation targeting violent conflicts between independent drug sellers and a group of criminal bikers in the east part of the province.

Each suspect faces several charges. Evan Lavoie, 21, Andréanne Dominique, 37, Dave Galienne-Picard, 30, and Rémi Fournier, 38, were charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement and serious assault.

Maxime Maheux, 26, faces two counts of arson.

Francis Gauthier-Marcoux, 33, and Bianca Simard are accused of attempted murder by firearm, assault and conspiracy to commit criminal acts.

Nicholas Coté, 45, is charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and arson.

Charlotte Montambault-Vaillancour, 32, has three counts of possession of drugs with the aim of trafficking.

The prosecution opposed the release of the suspects; their cases were postponed until Feb. 28 at the Quebec courthouse.
