Ensemble Montréal looking to improve building permit approval time if elected

Montreal mayoral candidate Soraya Martinez Ferrada says she and her party — Ensemble Montréal — are looking to improve approval time for housing construction if they win the upcoming election.

“If we really want to tackle the housing crisis, we need to modernize our practices and remove unnecessary obstacles. A metropolis like Montreal can and must do better. At Ensemble Montréal, we want housing projects to move forward, not be slowed down by red tape,” said Martinez Ferrada.

The leader of Ensemble Montréal says they want to create a maximum standard for issuing building permits at 90 days, and renovation permits at 25 days for minor work.

“Too many construction projects are held up by unjustified delays. Reducing the wait time for permits not only promotes construction, but also restores confidence among citizens and stakeholders. It’s a step forward in unlocking the city’s full potential in terms of housing,” said Sylvain Gariépy, Ensemble Montréal spokesperson on housing and candidate for mayor of the borough of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension.

Ensemble Montréal says these changes can be made by using artificial intelligence and an online portal similar to what’s being used in Saint-Laurent.
